December is here! And basically half way over. What?! It's kind of hard to get in the Christmas spirit here in Austin. It's been sunny and in the 40's/50's. We decided not to get a tree this year since we'll be traveling over the holidays and I didn't really feel like dealing with it. See? I'm so not in the Christmas spirit. I am, however, up to day on my December Daily album! Yay! I'm sharing pages 1-4 today, plus my title and introduction pages.
I made the 6x8" title page above before December even started. I was had pulled my supplies together and figured making a title page ahead of time would be a good idea.
Supplies Used: Glitz Design 'Finnley' Paper & 6x6" Paper Pad & Sticker Sheet, Silver 'P' from Target $1 Spot, Fancy Pants Striped Paper, Texas Sticker from a local paper store, Heidi Swapp Plastic Letters, Studio Calico Kits - Sequins and Grid Paper, Uni-ball Signo White & Gold Gel Pans, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher
Once December actually started, it felt weird to just start of with Day 1. So I made this introduction page with a calendar I drew on vellum and a little introduction page. I made on last year as well and it helps add some context to our lives right now.
I just can't get behind the loose confetti pocket trend. Everytime I try to do it, everything just sits at the bottom of the pocket and I hate it. I made the trend my own by faking it a little. I used glue dots to adhere the sequins on the 3x4" card in a random fashion.
Supplies Used: Studio Calico/Kal Barteski Stamp, ColorBox Gold Ink, Studio Calico Wood Veneer Star, American Crafts Glitter Tape, Glitz Design 6x6" Paper Pad, American Crafts Red Thickers (from last year's Studio Calico Dec. Daily Kit), BasicGrey Gold Candy Buttons, [email protected] Red Letter Stickers, Freckled Fawn Gold Washi Tape, BasicGrey Letter Stickers, Maggie Holmes Gold Glitter Foam Thicker
Here are days 1 and 2. I'm using a Studio Calico Handbook and page protectors this year and really like the format so far. I have a bunch of pages and just choose the style (3x4", 4x6", etc.) based on the photos I have for that day.
A closeup of the left side, day 1. I bought a bunch of pinecones for $1 and started painting the tips gold. I probably won't finish them this year but next year I'll make a garland or something. Right now they're sitting in a vase - some painted, some not. Also, I am obsessed with the lime green color in the Glitz collection and especially like it paired with red 'one'.
This is a closeup from Day 2. It was super hot on December 2nd and very confusing to my Chicago-born self. I couldn't wrap my head around wearing a tank top and seeing Christmas trees. No complaints, trust me, it's just weird.
Supplies Used: Glitz Design 'Finnley' 6x6" Paper Pad, Studio Calico Kits (Word Bubble Card, Red Letter Stickers & Gold Edged Label), Freckled Fawn Gold Washi Tape, Martha Stewart Crafts Gold Leaves & Kraft Label, BasicGrey Candy Buttons, Glitz Design Sticker Sheet
Here's the next page, days 3 & 4. I collected some leaves from the 3rd but they didn't work out like I'd hoped. I had some red ones that were already dried and brown by the time I got home and some really bright green ones that I had glued down, but the glue leaked through the leaves. Next time I'll collect the leaves and take a photo of them. So, I had some improvising to do. I found these gold Martha Stewart leaves a local paper store and stuck them down the same way I had the real leaves on there. That way I could cover up my mistakes and some of the glue tears. The background paper is hand drawn by me with a piece of black card stock and a white gel pen. I am going to do this more often.
Here is a detail from day 4. My parents and I went to Zilker Park and became obsessed! The water was very still that day so I was able to get some good photos with my iPhone. I added a little gold label with the day on there. The letter stickers are from the Glitz Design sticker sheet and I love how quirky they are with the floral pattern.
So that's the beginning of my album. And a very long-winded post! I'll be back next week with another update. I was looking through my 2012 album and am so glad I have it. It's keeping me going this year. It's crazy how different things were just one year ago!

your Christmas in Austin is similar to the Christmas we have here in Australia! I live right up the North - Darwin - and its humid and hot here at Christmas!
