Billy and I really wanted some nightstands in our new bedroom with storage. I've seen several different IKEA Rast Hacks and wanted to try it out myself. The small 3 drawer dresser was perfect for this project. My favorite version was the one with the outer dark wood and white drawers. I have never stained anything before, but how hard could it be?
Well, as it turns out, staining is super simple and makes a huge difference in the way a piece of wood looks. I was amazed and now I want to stain everything.
I went to a hardware store around the corner to pick up a few things, a few other supplies were things I had on hand. The guy at the store suggesed I use a wax, instead of a varnish to seal the stain. He explained in depth, but what I got from it was that indoor furniture doesn't need to be protected from the elements like outdoor furniture. The wax is much easier and quicker. I was sold. The wax has more of a matte finish.
I'll share my final nightstand/dresser makeover once it's finished. But first, I have to put another coat or 2 of white paint on the drawer fronts and spray paint the knobs. Hopefully I'll wrap it up this weekend.
